Experience the night at the University of Groningen
On 29 October 2022, the eighteenth edition of the Night of the Night will take place, an initiative of the Nature and Environment Federations. The aim of the Night of the Night is to make the Netherlands darker and more sustainable. Various activities will be organized throughout the country.
UG opens its doors
The UG will also open its doors to the public. At the Bernoulliborg, there will be an elaborative programme for both children and adults. If the weather is good, telescopes will be set up outside, but even in case of bad weather there will be plenty to do.
As from 7 p.m., guided tours of the Blaauw Observatory will start, offered in both Dutch and English. In the mobile planetarium, visitors can take a journey through the universe. Children can get creative in the astronomical craft corner.
Lectures
In addition, a number of lectures will be held. Always wanted to know where the stars are at night, how far away they are and whether our sun is also a star? Astronomer Jeffrey Bout will give a lecture entitled 'Stars in the Universe' for children aged 6 to 12. And astronomer Dr Migo Mueller will talk about the James Webb Space Telescope that was launched into space last December. This lecture will be held in English.
